CHILDREN'S DEPRESSION INVENTORY, THE (CDI)

Kovacs, Maria

~ (1992) is a brief multiple choice inventory which assesses cognitive, affective, and behavioral signs of childhood depression. The profile presents a total score as well as five very brief factor-scales: (1) Negative mood, (2) Ineffectiveness, (3) Negative self-esteem, (4) Interpersonal problems, and (5) Anhedonia. The child is instructed to select one sentence for each item that best describes them in the past two weeks. Because child self-reports are subject to response-bias (children often respond as they think they ought to feel), the authors have provided parallel Teacher and parent observer-rating forms.
Examinee's require at least a first grade reading level to compelte the self-report form.
The CDIS (short) consists of 10 items and may be used as a screen.
