~ (2003) assesses test-taking effort using unfamiliar stimuli. The B test is a letter recognition and discrimination task. The examinee must circle all the "b"s that appear on each page of the stimulus booklet. The time required and error totals are used to calculate an Effort Index Score.

DOT COUNTING TEST, THE (DCT)

~ (2003) assesses test-taking effort measuring intentional or unintentional lack of effort. The patient is required to count dots printed on two sets of six cards. On the first set, the dots are scattered randomly; on the second they are arranged in a clear pattern to simplify counting. The count and the time taken is recorded for each card to determine an Effort Index Score.

TEST OF MEMORY MALINGERING (TOMM)

~ (1996) is a visual recognition test designed to screen malingered and true memory impairments by using two learning trials and one retention (optional) trial. During the Learning Trials, 50 line drawings are shown at 1 second intervals. The patient is then shown 50 recognition panels containing one of the previously presented drawings plus a new drawing. From each panel, the patient must select the picture previously shown. The Retention Trial uses the same procedure except the original 50 target pictures are not re-administered.
